Indian Overseas Bank Recognized for Promoting Hindi Across Operations
Indian Overseas Bank (IOB), a prominent public sector bank, has been awarded the prestigious Rajbhasha Kirti Pratham Puraskar for the second consecutive year, in recognition of its exemplary efforts in implementing the Official Language Policy for 2023-24. The award, presented by the Ministry of Home Affairs, highlights IOB’s strong commitment to promoting the Hindi language across its operations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented the accolade to the bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Ajay Kumar Srivastava, during the Hindi Day Celebrations and the Diamond Jubilee of Official Languages in New Delhi, as per a press release issued by IOB.
Headquartered in Chennai, IOB operates 3,264 branches, has an extensive network of 3,500 ATMs, and is supported by 7,251 business correspondents. The bank’s services also extend internationally, with operations in Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
The Rajbhasha Kirti Puraskar was instituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs to promote the effective implementation of the official language policy across various ministries, public sector enterprises, and nationalised banks. IOB’s continued success in securing this honor reflects its dedication to fostering linguistic inclusion within the banking sector.
